Why I've been missing:
Just abo...It WORKED!!!!

Why I've been missing:
Just about the time Robbie posted this excellent chapter, my hard drive crashed. A week later, it was fixed. Two weeks after that, AOL sent the software I needed to go online. Two weeks after that, I found an AOL tech who knew how to get it working. (BTW I'm pretty sure this isn't the correct software -- my e-mail is lousy.)
Anyway, I read the chapter on a motel computer while working out of town, wrote a long response to the spell question, tried to post it...
No go. Must have been some protection on the motel computer. I'm sure I spent a half hour writing that post. I won't bore you with the trick I had to use to get in here tonight.
ANYWAY:

Love the idea of one Harvey wanting to recollect his splinter group.
Love the magnetic potion, and also the layered rainbow smoke potion. What good ideas.
So I will change my intended vote from the waveform to E. Harvey will have to fix himself.

The potion Endora is called "retrogradus fluid" and it reverses things. It requires that all it's ingredients be turned inside out. The mandrake root would be carefully split and the inside flayed open to wrap around its outside skin. Animal ingredients require a chef's touch with the knife, as they must be "velveted" in order to roll the skin side to the inside.
All this is done on the surface of a mirror, and then the mirror must be reflecting all of the ingredients while they are introduced to the pot and stirred gently. It is important not to allow the potion liquid to cloud, boil too vigorously, or to overfill the cauldron (a special vessel that is wide mouthed and shallow is recommended) or else the magic will go awry. All the ingredients must remain in communication with the mirror until the potion matures.
To use this potion to reverse a spell that affects a person's behavior, the subject must drink the potion while reflected in a mirror and saying an incantation backwards, sound for sound. If the potion has been brewed incorrectly or is drunk improperly, the usually fatal side effect is to cause the drinker to curl up and begin turning inside out.
Also interesting can be the challenge of deciding what behavior needs reversing, as this is included in the incantation.
If the potion is sprayed in the path of an incoming spell, the intention of the spell is reversed. The main difficulty here is discerning the intention of the spell as it is being cast. Sometimes the reverse is as bad or worse than the original.
Due to its tricky nature, and some ethical issues involving its similarity to the Imperius curse, this potion is restricted by most wizard governments.

Endora is trying to decide whether to use it on Il Comte's victims to disenchant them, or just try to spray it on Il C himself, in hopes that he will not longer want to control the world, and will start taking directions from the house elves.

This was better in my first draft. Too bad I couldn't post it. : -(TWZRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12169033110387022829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-17566187561706761592011-04-28T01:53:57.352-07:002011-04-28T01:53:57.352-07:00Test postTest postTWZRDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12169033110387022829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-33153071303789415702011-04-26T08:51:36.912-07:002011-04-26T08:51:36.912-07:00FYI: I will have very limited internet access for ...FYI: I will have very limited internet access for the next few days.greynifflerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02681797294152035949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-61518652066405696472011-03-28T00:28:04.150-07:002011-03-28T00:28:04.150-07:00Take your time Robbie and have a ball singing!Take your time Robbie and have a ball singing!Linda Carrighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17438279522523355525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-40832667617390064582011-03-28T00:26:21.169-07:002011-03-28T00:26:21.169-07:00Take your time Robbie and have a ball singing!Take your time Robbie and have a ball singing!Linda Carrighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17438279522523355525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-44181813272153092382011-03-27T20:13:46.138-07:002011-03-27T20:13:46.138-07:00I plan to finish Chapter 178 as soon as I come out...I plan to finish Chapter 178 as soon as I come out of a couple of consecutive performance weeks. Il...I'm going to modify my first answer a bit. Il Comte's little treasure is necessary to get past Harvey's defenses (or Harvies's defenses) (including the pocket elephant). It's the waveform collapser that will do the job. Of course, we need an explanation, preferably a very incomplete and tantalizing one, about how and why Scheherezade is involved.

As to the potion: Endora is working on something to create selective blindness and deafness so that the drinker will be protected from the curse of the ring of Count Matthias. But the potion must be kept hot from when it is made until the time it is drunk. It may only be cooled just before drinking, because it starts to go bad after it's been cool for four minutes.

And when it goes bad ... the drinker may go totally blind and deaf. That will generally pass, and lead to a phase in which the drinker will see through his ears and hear through his eyes. After a while, the ear/eye confusion will revert, and then re-revert, on the left and right sides independently. It also may switch sight or hearing (or both) between sides.greynifflerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02681797294152035949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-87319497189946177982011-03-08T01:56:13.948-08:002011-03-08T01:56:13.948-08:00(continuation)

I wanted to read about this plant again just to make sure I got it right but I wasn't able to find the story as it probably is really far back and a long time ago. Anyway here goes: sanheten is all about telling the truth and being truthful in general. Am I right? Hope so.

Mega Magnetizing Potion

ingredients

1 cauldronful of snow from the North Pole (NB - the snow must be gathered at midnight at the winter solstice)
5 bunches of sanheten
17 spinach leaves
13 drops of maple syrup
2 handfuls of thestramule sweat

Light the fire under the cauldron of snow, when melted add the sanheten and stir lazily in a clockwise direction 9 times.
Fold in the spinach gently one leaf at a time, allow to simmer for 3 minutes.
Add the maple syrup and stir briskly in a figure 8 pattern 11 times.
Low simmer for a fortnight.
Finally add the last ingredient; the thestramule sweat, there should now be a cloud of sparkly pink vapor arising.

Your potion is finished

to use: fill up a glass with potion and add a bit of the person, in this case Harvey, to the potion. After the fizzing dies down drink it. The person becomes super magnitized and attracts his "others" by force of magnetism. The sanheten ensures that only "Harveys" will be summoned and attracted to Harvey no. 1.Linda Carrighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17438279522523355525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998075323382223363.post-43782493923108387852011-02-25T02:30:04.630-08:002011-02-25T02:30:04.630-08:00Great chapter Robbie!
